Classic Grilled Cheese
Crispy, buttery grilled cheese with melted perfection inside. Perfect paired with tomato soup.
Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread (white, sourdough, or whole wheat)
- 2 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, or your favorite)
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- Optional: pinch of garlic powder
Instructions
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. You want it hot enough to toast the bread but not so hot that it burns before the cheese melts.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread generously. If using garlic powder, sprinkle a small pinch on the buttered side.
- Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in the heated skillet.
- Quickly layer the cheese slices on top of the bread in the pan, then place the second slice of bread on top, butter-side up.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy. Press down gently with a spatula to help the cheese melt.
- Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the second side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Remove from heat, let it rest for a minute, then slice diagonally and serve immediately.
Chef's Tips
Perfect Golden Crust: Use softened butter and spread it all the way to the edges of the bread for even browning.
Cheese Choice: Mix two types of cheese for more complex flavor. Try cheddar with mozzarella or American with Swiss.
Temperature Control: Medium heat is key. Too high and the bread burns before the cheese melts; too low and you won't get that crispy texture.
Perfect Pairing: Serve with a bowl of hot tomato soup for the ultimate comfort food combination.
